A bit about us...
We are a Canadian Kennel Club registered, small in home family breeder of registered miniature dachshunds. Our dogs are our pets, first and foremost. When we bought our first doxie over 16 years ago, we had no idea how much we would fall in love with the breed, but we were hooked! From there, the decision was made to help others find that perfect family pet too. So since then, we have set out to provide families with friendly, and healthy forever companions and a positive experience all around!
All our dogs are sold on a strict spay/neuter contract and come with a 2 year genetic health guarantee. Our puppies will be microchipped and have received their first set of vaccines and several de-wormings. Every puppy we produce will have a forever home with us if their family situation should change.
We strive to keep our numbers low to ensure that each dog gets plenty of love and attention. Pictures and videos of our home can be provided and are often included in our photos and posted on social media.
I personally believe that buying a puppy should be a great experience for the whole family, one that starts with knowing where your dog comes from, understanding the parents’ personalities, following your puppy’s journey and watching it grow and change from week to week. (We invite deposit holders only to come anytime after the 6/7 week mark to meet their new puppy ~ DUE TO COVID and PARVO OUTBREAKS IN BC, WE ARE AMENDING THIS TEMPORARILY ~ ABSOLUTELY NO VISITORS ALLOWED!.) You will receive photos and weekly videos to view the milestones for yourself. For some, it's about getting a dog suited to their needs and lifestyle, but for others, you're looking for a particular color or pattern...we can help with that! We breed for health, temperament and conformation first.
I have always maintained that the first precious weeks of a puppy's life are critical to forming and shaping them for the rest of their lives. This puts a huge responsibility on the breeder, to give them the best start we possibly can during the small window of time that we have them. Our ultimate goal is to produce happy, healthy, well socialized, confident and enriched little bundles of joy!
Generally speaking, Dachshunds are extremely healthy dogs, but can be prone to back problems. At this time, there is no sure fire test to prevent IVDD (intervertebral disk disease) from occurring. We recommend keeping your doxie at a healthy weight and prevent excessive jumping off of furniture or being dropped. We do our best to only breed from healthy stock. Additionally, all of our males have their OFA recommended tests done yearly for the breed. Eventually we’d like all our girls to have their OFA recommended testing completed as well, but the cost yearly is astronomical and we don’t want to have to increase the price of our puppies if at all possible.
We will only produce a few litters per year, but we like to post a lot of pics along the way. Please check back often! For more pics of our doxie family, check us out on Instagram @ 'littledoxontheprairie' and Like our page on Facebook @prairiedoxminidachshunds!
We hope you find what you're looking for on our site. If you are interested in an available puppy or in finding out about an upcoming litter or if you're interested in giving one of our retired adults a home, please take the time to fill out our puppy application and drop us a line. We'd love to get to know you.
Thanks for visiting! Come again soon.
